Minolta Scan Dual 4 - bad tray

A weird thing happened when I was scanning film last week. The film try I was using, negative, suddenly would not advance past the 2nd frame position. Just clicking and "error 5". I was able to pull it out some and eject.

As some of you may know my older Minolta Scan Dual 4 died a few months ago, so I have an extra tray for each film holder. My old negative film tray holder works. Very weird.

I had something very similar. It actually scared me when it first happened. I thought the scanner was jammed or something and that I would have to ship it back and hope it could be serviced and such.

Anyway, the problem was that the negative was holding the slide (tray?) not fully closed, and it would get part way in, click and grind, and then give an error.

This may be what's happening with yours.
