It's been discontinued for, I believe, several years; from memory, I think it was around 2008 when I purchased mine.

So for current available scanners, is there a successor from Epson to consider, or is Plustek the main contender?

(Hey, I want to keep this forum about scanning. You know what else is posted here when we don't about scanning. )

Although this is a commercial site, they have some useful reviews of 35mm scanners and scanning tips: http://www.scandig.com/index.html
Also a range of scanners ("Reflecta") which look interesting.
I'm not sure of their availability outside of Europe.

I'm using an Minolta Dimage Scan Speed f2800 to scan my Kodachromes.
This is long discontinued, but they sometimes come up on eBay, although the Nikon 35mm scanners are more common, and fetch ridiculously high prices.
The only consolation might be, if you buy a scanner from eBay, you could probably scan everything you wanted and then sell it again without losing money.
