Scanning Kodachrome (or, I guess I should say, color correcting Kodachrome scans) is a REAL pain in the butt. So much so that I have basically given up on it. Then again, I believe that Kodachrome is best appreciated in the way that it was originally meant to be - as a slide viewed on a light table or with a slide projector.

I gave up a slide projector years ago. I'm too lazy. But I still enjoy a light table, in the quiet of the evening, sometimes with a beverage and music.
And I still shoot slides for prints. The local CVS has been running 8x10s or 8x12s at $1.99 USD. It's funny, 20 years ago, I used to wait for the twice a year Kodak specials at these prices. Because of digital, as in scans and photo editing, filing is more time consuming. I never used to track the intermediate versions between the slide and print. Now I do. Mainly for three image sizes with 3/4 inch borders, px x px and resolution, plus the original scan. It's more work. But I guess, it's part of the digital workflow. My print sizes include 8x11-1/2. Plus there are the versions I sometimes prepare for email or simple computer monitor display or CD based web pages. Digital and bookkeeping, can't have one without the other. It's simpler to just give 'em a print, and be done with it. I do that too. |

No idea - those were scans off of prints and not the original negatives. Ah well, cant have everything!

While I'm twiddling my thumbs, waiting for my rolls back from Dwaynes, it's time to post a couple more shots!
This one comes from my roadtrip from LA to Seattle, in Newport Oregon: ![]() Day 254/365 - Newport Bridge at dawn by Great Beyond, on Flickr While not artistically strong, this one is cool because everyone needs to give it up for their mother! ![]() Three Superheros by Great Beyond, on Flickr This one just made me chuckle: ![]() Ah! Awesome looking photo - I've been (or at least was) trying to shoot the moon for a while and always came out disappointed. But that one - that one's wicked!

And here's my very last frame of Kodachrome that I'll ever shoot:
![]() Day 363/365 - Momma takes the Kodachrome away by Great Beyond, on Flickr It's been a hell of a run. I've gotten some amazing pictures in the last six months, and I've learned a lot about film. Not everything I snapped was a winner, but I like to think that I did the ol' girl proud from time to time. My only regret is that I didn't get back into shooting film sooner - but you enjoy what you did get, not lament what you didn't have. |
