Why are people still buying Kodachrome on Ebay???

I had a guy in Italy buy my last 2 remaining Super 8 200ft sound carts for £50 each, even though he said he knew they wouldn't get to him in time for them to be used. I just assume he wanted them for sentimentality/collection/investment.

As someone who worships at the Altar of Capitalism (...charge what the market will bear... ad infinitum, ad nauseam), I, too, share your view that the seller's responsibilities end with the delivery of the goods to the buyer (providing the goods are those purchased by the buyer and they arrive at the buyer's doorstep in the condition promised).
My concern, which it appears you overlooked, is the absence of disclosure: no mention was made that K-14 processing is no longer available. I never operate on the assumption that Joe Q. Public is fully informed. It is my view that, irrespective of what the buyer chooses to do with his or her purchase, the seller has an ethical obligation to inform the buyer that Kodachrome can no longer be shot for its intended purpose (color slides).

this was listed in early December 2010, and now relisted at the same price !!!! Just emailed the seller to enquire about processing, wonder if they know something we dont!


Also noticed some 16mm k25 listed too at a high price, are these sellers serious?

Look closely. It's a private auction (as best as I can determine from the German I don't speak). Now look at the seller rating. It seems to be 95%, but if you click for details, it's actuallly 90% for the last month or last 6 months. BUt wait, it gets better, if you scroll down to look for the negative ratings, you'll see they're all for private auctions!

In my experience, private auction, though often touted by the seller as done that way to protect the seller, are actually done that way to protect the buyer, since they make it impossible to tell which item a negative review was for. I know one seller who sells homemade-looking bootleg CDs who uses this heavily, so that you can't tell which CD someone is complaining about.

Without more research (and/or learning German), I can't tell if this seller's only private auctions are Kodachrome. But if so, that would mean he's got 100% negative ratings on Kodachrome!

I left no notion where one the film is able.
They can ask for sometimes in Kodak whether him still develop.

Hmmmm....there are some quite hi-end and specialist items in the guy's other auctions, and it's rather hard to believe that someone dealing in that gear would have totally missed 18 months of the Kodachrome publicity.

And, while my German is fairly rusty, the buyers posting negative comments didn't seem very happy!

I agree that at least the lack of processing should be mentioned, but strangely, I have found comments on several other sites by people who absolutely do not believe there was only one lab (in Kansas yet!) left to process Kodachrome. They are sure other labs out there will do it. Last week I was even told by someone who contacted the infamous Rocky Mountain Lab that they process K-12 and K-14 film(!) Apparently the part about processing it in black and white (or even about getting the film back) wasn't mentioned...

It's times like this which makes me remember the wise words of Mike Brady, "Caveat Emptor."

I live in Italy and own about 20 rolls of KR 64 24 exposures. Never sold one, I usually buy, not sell.

But since you all seem so interested, I am willing to trade on a one to one basis, for something fine grain like Portra 160, or 400, or Ektar, which I can self develop.

This week end I'll probably try to shoot five rolls and then send them to Dwayne's, hoping they'll add them to the queue, but certainly can't shoot all of it. Too much.
